The predicted thunderstorm that forced moving of weekend BEE finally got here but not till 4PM and not before worker bees managed to get the first 10 planters up. Looks great. City parks delivered a second load of compost and two yards of triple mix soil with core sand arrived from Spring Garden. Thanks to all who were there today, we made a lot of headway and Sunday we should be able to get another 10 planters assembled and installed.

I want to thank new members Douglas Scott (Sunday BEE May 25th ) and the Ind brothers Graeme and Jeremy who assisted Raul Orozco and myself this Thursday evening in levelling the aggregate at the north-east end of the garden. Good hard work gentlemen, much appreciated. The ground is ready at the east end for the first planters.

Friday May 23rd the balance of our fasteners (Lee Valley) and lumber for our raised beds will be purchased and to be delivered/picked up as we need from New Canadians Lumber. YEAH!
Thank you Solomon Boye and Chris Martin for finding the resources at City Parks. Can you two please continue with the magic and make our fence appear next week ?
Worker BEES will be drillin & buzzin away Sunday 25th 1PM assembling additional planter boxes and digging the holes for our shrubs. Sunny and warm weather in the forecast. Everybody bring your tools and good humor.

Garden members met on site this Victoria day to build the first two raised beds. Looking good.
Last week city parks staff leveled and rolled the base aggregate and delivered a small load of lumber. We patiently await delivery of our fence, cedar shrubs, soil, compost etc. We may have to fund raise to assist in the purchase of all our lumber needs. We’ll be putting up planter boxes 10 at a time starting at the east end of the garden as soon as fence is up.

Message from Marc De Mouy, Park/Garden Coordinator
Garrison Creek Park Community Garden Association
Friends and Neighbours
May Day May Day
Today our shed was delivered and placed on its spot. Actually at City Parks they call them “bunkers” ’cause they are indestructible concrete 6×8x8 feet tall with a solid iron door, not one has ever been broken into. Looks a little bleak out there right now by its lonesome but once surrounded by our fence and either painted or covered with vines it will be fine and very safe on site storage for our tools, seeds, whatever.
In rather short order we will see final aggregate deliveries and levelling, fence installation, raised beds arriving that will require us volunteers to help Parks staff and lastly soil and compost by the truckload. Our target completion day remains optimistically the 17th of May which would be amazing ’cause that’s the right on “time to plant.” Unforeseen delays notwithstanding we will be growing STUFF by June 1st. Weather’s been good to us so far. Knock on wood! All stages before, in-between and after are being photographed documentary style and you can view photos in our Flickr group and on this site to witness the progress.
Our rules and regulations that are in place for this spring 2008 have now been posted – click on the link at top right of the website at any time to view them. We will continue to add or change them as and when the membership deems necessary. We have decided that only a key deposit of $20 will be asked of you who wish an individual plot, and that the key deposit will be voluntary for community plot participants. That is, for the very occasional member who will want to visit only when other key-holding members are there, they need not acquire one. It allows us to thus have Friends of the Garden who may not have much time to devote or can choose to join later or get onto our waiting list.
Some of you (few) have not replied to the questionnaire yet. Bad YOU! E-mail addicts like us here at HQ do not understand this strange behavior. We have gone to a lot of trouble to fairly communicate to all in our community and we will hate to lose you for lack of an e-mail. C’est la vie! We will very shortly hit 100% occupancy (reservations of plots at 85%) due to the wonderful reaction from all and the great team we have become). Membership is actually FREE and your individual plots are securely yours upon payment of your $20 key deposit. Cheques can be made payable to the “Garrison Creek Park Community Garden Association” – that is rather long, isn’t it? Mail or drop into the mailbox at 1152 Shaw St and you’re done, IN!
Now we will make an effort to actually reduce our e-mails to members by eventually having all information on the website and only a regular e-newsletter that you can subscribe to and unsubscribe from when you’re tired of even reading our good news. In fact we will not forward you anything not even if it’s from David Suzuki, just post links to everything green that grows and might be of interest to us all.
OUR NEXT MEETING is on Saturday May 10th and is our only Annual General Meeting. Come anytime between 1 and 4 PM. Attendance is never obligatory but decisions get made by those who do. I’ll be there!
I’ll be there all afternoon. That’s 10 days from now.

Thanks to everyone who came out and helped spread aggregate. Here are shots of some (but not all!) who contributed.
