I’ve gotten word from the City that a new community garden is starting near us. Here’s the notice from Beth Gosnell from Councillor Mihevc’s office – if you’re interested, you can attend the meeting or get in touch with Beth.
Dear Community Gardeners,
A new community garden will soon be growing at Frankel Lambert Park, just west of Garrison Creek Park. If you are interested in learning more or becoming involved, please come out to the first public meeting.
Councillor Mihevc has met on site with city staff, volunteers, and a few area residents. They are eager to finalize the design and move forward to prepare the earth for planting this summer!
It is a nice opportunity to come together and sow more seeds to share and enjoy.
DATE: Wednesday March 4, 7pm – 9pm
LOCATION: Christie Gardens Apartments, 600 Melita Cres
Auditorium

The first meeting of the GCPCA 2009 executive will be the morning of Saturday, February 28, final time and location TBA. As I mentioned a few weeks ago, please consider joining the executive to fill one of the empty positions or act as a member-at-large. And let us know if you have any ideas for the garden and park for 2009 – on the agenda for this meeting, among other things, is the creation of a soil plan and fundraising plan.
Also on February 28 is annual event Seedy Saturday, from 2-6pm at the Artscape Wychwood Barns. Some event info:
Seedy Saturday is a chance to rub elbows with other gardeners, exchange your dill seeds for some heirloom tomato seeds, buy locally grown organic seed, participate in fun, hands-on workshops, play garden games with your kids and revel in the splendor of Toronto’s green community!
This year the event will be held in the Covered Street at the Barns on Saturday, February 28 from 2-6p.m.
Suggested donation is $2 at the door to help with making this great event a sustainable one! Please stay tuned to www.joemihevc.com as a list of workshops will be posted soon. If you would like to help out on the day of or with preparations, please email tcgn.volunteers@gmail.com.
Several members of the executive will be attending; email us if you’d like to join us.
